Home of
the world's largest Loon, the state bird, Vergas is a quiet,
relaxing community of 311 people in the pristine Detroit Lakes area
of central Minnesota. In fact, the loon has become the community's
mascot with its famous 20-foot replica of the bird and Looney
Daze, a community and area favorite event.
Looney
Daze, hosted every August in the small community, attracts people
from all over the lakes area and beyond. Included in the "daze" are
multiple events for you to watch and become a part of such as the
Road Rally giving honors to the overall winner, the best-dressed,
and best-decorated vehicle; a large parade with a float competition;
artist and craft show and Fine-Arts Best-of-Show; 5k Walk/Run; a popular
Collector Car Show; and of course, Loon Calling.
Vergas is a beautiful area to vacation or retire
with all the conviences with being just minutes from Detroit Lakes
and short drives to Fargo, Fergus Falls, Alexandria, and even Minneapolis.
The links to the left are great places to learn a
little more about Vergas, the town, as the town's residents say, is
"small enough to know you, but big enough to serve you!"
